Install MySQL<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"highlight plaintext\">\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"code\">\n<pre>sudo apt-get install mysql-server\n<\/pre>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>You will be\u00a0asked a series of questions during this process, you will have set up a password for the MySQL root user.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3. Harden MySQL<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Basically, this means to secure our MySQL server, for more knowledge on hardening MySQL, I recommend\u00a0checking out this <a href=\"https:\/\/virtono.com\/community\/knowledgebase\/hardening-the-defense-of-database-server\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"highlight plaintext\">\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"code\">\n<pre>sudo mysql_secure_installation\n<\/pre>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>You will again be asked a series of questions like changing the root password, removing anonymous user accounts, disabling root logins outside of localhost, and removing test databases. I would recommend answering them yes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Step 4. Accessing MySQL<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To log in to MySQL as the root user:\n<div class=\"highlight plaintext\">\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"gutter gl\">\n<pre class=\"lineno\"><\/pre>\n<\/td>\n<td class=\"code\">\n<pre>mysql -u root -p\n<\/pre>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>When prompted, enter the root password.
